Hello from Laura, the Bad Wife!
Though I loved growing up in rural Alabama, the call of the city – any city! – was hard to ignore. After living all over the East Coast, my little family and I are settled in the capital of South Carolina.
Here you’ll read about our journey in balancing those two aspects, making things from scratch for a small family while still living in an urban area. You’ll read about how to incorporate easy living into your home and routine in a way that suits you.
Best of all, I’ll be here the whole time to walk you through it.
Wait…Why are You Called the Bad Wife?
Because I’m not perfect, angel, and that’s perfectly all right.
I’m torn about being a wife. I love my husband, love taking care of him and the girls and our home, but for years I felt like that was at odds with my feminist perspective in a lot of ways. It took a lot of self-reflection, but I finally realized that it’s MY feminism to love being a wife, MY feminism to really be proud of taking care of our home while also working full time in my discipline. I don’t feel a social or religious obligation to be a “good wife” or “homemaker” in the ways those terms are broadly defined, and I think it’s a totally valid, unique perspective to me to embrace feminism, my career, and homemaking in a way that works for me.
Perfectly Imperfect
This is a place to celebrate ALL types of families and homemakers. I don’t care if you’re single, married, have 15 children, are child-free, or plan to leave your entire estate to your feline pal Mrs. Mittens. It doesn’t matter if you are a literal gourmet chef or if you could burn water.
If you feel that same kind of push/pull, or if you ever did and just got off that seesaw, this is definitely a spot for you.
Welcome Home
